The web has recently seen a fantastic explosion in the ease and utility of online sharing. From political discourse to cake recipes, everything gets posted online. This evolution of information distribution has made it so much easier to stay in touch with friends, colleagues and ideas. However, it has come with a cost. The majority of posts are aggregated across a number of huge social media services that reserve the right read, distribute and archive the content as they see fit. Files are usually shared in the clear and can easily fall into the wrong hands.
Scrambls enables users to seamlessly assert lasting control over their posts and files. Some conversations are really meant to be private. Some posts maybe shouldn't have been posted. Some content is worthy of copyright. Groups and affiliations change. Scrambls strives to be an easy-to-use tool spanning across the Internet to give you control over your participation in online media and online distribution of your importan files.
Scrambls works for online posts and files interchangeably. Using the same group controls as you use for scrambling social media posts, you can easily scramble a file or folder before emailing it or posting it to an online service or drive.
Scrambls works by introducing a 'key' needed to read a post or open a protected file. The original content is encoded before being delivered to the web. The key gets stored at a scrambls servers while the encoded post goes to the service provider.
When the post is later displayed, or the file is opened, scrambls applies the key to make it readable again. The author owns these keys and can set the policy for whom and when to make them available.
We are committed to providing a free service which is tailored to the needs of our users. Please let us know what you think or drop suggestions at [email protected]. Our business is based on providing advanced features so the core service can remain free.
We are serious about privacy. Our role is to help you control your content, not to read it or advertise with it. We have constructed this service as a utility. You own the keys. If you choose to leave the service we will provide you with the keys to manually access anything posted with scrambls.
Our mission is to make sharing smarter. We believe you should understand what you are sharing and whom you are sharing it with. Scrambls strives to make sharing as transparent and comfortable an experience as possible.
Scrambls employs a custom algorithm that is optimized for presentation on social media sites. Each post is uniquely keyed and the key length is sufficiently long for most web posts.
Scrambls is 'social security'. We make no assertion that the encoding is unbreakable. And because the transformations are applied on the client, outside of any secure execution environment (like most commercial security solutions), the keys are vulnerable to a local attack. SSL is employed to ensure client to server communications.
Rest assured that we will be quick to employ enhanced security platforms as they become available. As a division of Wave Systems, which has a 20 year history in endpoint security, we believe in the future of real information protection.
For those who are interested, scrambls is specifically architected to allow for partners to integrate their own key servers and algorithms. Please see developer.scrambls.com.
Scrambls has an open architecture and encourages integration. Please visit developer.scrambls.com. There you will find everything you need to integrate support for posting and reading scrambls in your app or web service.
We also support the integration of external policy servers. See External Policy Interface.

Whether your concern is privacy, copyright infringement, accidental disclosure or compliance, scrambls provides the ability to take control of who can access the content that you post online or distribute electronically. Scrambls protects data for your business that is often overlooked in data protection initiatives – data that is posted online (blog posts, Facebook, Salesforce.com), files posted to the cloud (Dropbox, Skydrive), or data in motion (email, flash drives, FTP).
Scrambls encrypts and decrypts data with the permissions controlled by group membership. The “keys” that are needed to read a web post or descramble a file are held by a scrambls server. When the content needs to be displayed in clear text or when a file is descrambled, scrambls applies the key to make it readable again. The business administrator owns the keys and can set the policy for when and for whom to make them available through simple group management.
The scrambls enterprise console gives you the ability to manage scrambls accounts for all of your business users. You first create groups for access either by employee email addresses or through more detailed rules, deploy the client install or have users download it, and you’re good to go! As an administrator, you choose which accounts have access to what content, when the content is available, and for how long it is available. Scrambls is extensible through an SDK so that the groups and policies can be used by your business’s internal applications too.
See below for a user account view of the scrambls enterprise console:
When your users enter status updates, tweets, blog posts and more, scrambls empowers them to choose which group can see their postings. Sharing sensitive data in files also becomes as easy as 1-2-3. Users scramble a file, choose a group, and send it. Wherever the file goes – email, cloud storage, flash drive, FTP – it stays scrambled. Only a person in the allowed group can descramble it. If an employee leaves the company, simply deactivate their account, and they no longer have access to scrambled web content or files. If someone new needs to have access, add them to a group. All previous content scrambled for that group will be available to the new person immediately – no matter where it is stored or when it was created.
The difficulty of tracking data increases the risk to businesses when employees inadvertently email or post sensitive information where it can then fall into the wrong hands. Scrambls for Enterprise allows you to take back control of all your data. With scrambls for enterprise, your employees can:
